ZMZ-505: basic data

In the Soviet era Zavolzhsky plant was the sole supplier of engines for different cars GAZ factory. Based on the standard eight-cylinder engine ZMZ-53 produced many different versions of engines, differing working volume, size and type of attachments. The photo is of a typical "eight" GAS.

General data

The engine ZMZ-505 is a V-shaped eight-cylinder engine equipped with a carburetor system of preparation and feed of fuel. Initially, the engine was designed for fitting a large class of production plant GAS. One of the most famous of these machines is GAZ-14 "Chaika". In the framework of the struggle against the privileges the production of this car stopped and destroyed the entire body snap. But the engine GAZ-14 remained in production and was supplied to equip the small batch of cars "Volga" in a special configuration for the needs of the KGB. Modernization

In the early 90-ies the factory upgraded the engine, which resulted in the emergence of a new designation - ZMZ-505. When the working volume of the cylinder 5,53-liter power unit developed the power to 220 HP of power. High performance engine ZMZ-505 contributed to the increase compression ratio to 8.5 units. But because of this high compression engine required high-octane gasoline "Extra" of AI-95 (in modern terminology - A-95) or AI-98.

This engine was made for the latest versions of the "catch-up" GAZ-24-34 (produced until the beginning of 1993). In the photo below you can see the engine ZMZ-505 under the hood "Volga".

Design features

The engine has overhead valves driven by the collapse in units of the camshaft. The Cam profiles of the shaft had its curvature, thereby increasing the power ZMZ-505. The valve train was missing the hydraulic tappets, unlike the previous version of the motor. Because the work required a larger volume of the working mixture, then changed the cross section of the intake ports in the heads. The channels themselves are oval in shape.

The crankshaft was fitted with a damper of oscillations, which significantly reduced vibration during engine operation. To clean the oil centrifuge is used the usual filter with replaceable paper element. To ensure the system work cleaning engines ZMZ-505 was fitted with a more modern single-section oil pump.

To power the fuel could be used one or two Quad-To-114. The power ZMZ-505 with one carb was lower and was about 195 HP of power. The ignition system was duplicated and controlled from the microcontroller.
